'We must set our course to find the "Other Maldives," as President Nasheed once said': Yameen
Former President Yameen has accused President Dr. Muizzu’s administration of devastating the nation, asserting that the country must now strive toward "The Other Maldives" to recover from its current state. Highlighting a breakdown in governance, Yameen noted that state systems have stalled and institutions are no longer accountable, while the judiciary has deteriorated to a point where justice remains inaccessible to the public. Consequently, he emphasized the urgent need for a new political direction to rectify the country's current trajectory.

Former President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has expressed support for the "Aneh Dhivehi Raajje" (The Other Maldives) slogan previously championed by former President Mohamed Nasheed, stating that the country must head in that direction to overcome its current challenges.
He made these remarks while addressing the "Cha Goas" rally organized by the People's National Front (PNF).
Former President Yameen has stated that the current administration of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has led the nation toward ruin. He asserted that the President can no longer achieve anything through public support and claimed that all current government efforts are merely attempts to conceal this failure. He further noted that it is an undeniable reality that the situation in the Maldives has grown increasingly bleak, reaching a point of profound despair.
Emphasizing that the statements of any president must be taken seriously, Yameen noted that he had treated President Muizzu’s foreign policy declarations regarding ongoing global conflicts with the utmost gravity. Continuing in this vein, Yameen remarked that he was reminded of a statement made by former President Mohamed Nasheed, a prominent voice in the political arena. He recalled Nasheed’s call to seek "The Other Maldives," asserting that today, the nation finds itself compelled to head in that same direction.
This brings to mind the words of a former president who remains an active and influential voice in our society. President Nasheed once stated that we must seek "the other Maldives." Therefore, it is imperative that we, too, set our sights on discovering that alternative Maldives.Former President Abdulla Yameen
Former President Yameen stated that the governance system established by our ancestors and through our laws and constitution is no longer functioning. He asserted that the failure of the system is not due to inherent flaws, but rather the incompetence of those currently tasked with managing it. Describing the situation as one where the avenues for holding state institutions accountable have been blocked and everything has become a "one-way street," Yameen remarked that the only path currently open is the one leading to "Dhimyaath" (President Muizzu's private residence).
Furthermore, President Yameen heavily criticized the Maldivian justice system. He stated that the country's judiciary is no longer a place where citizens can find relief, asserting that the system has collapsed and been destroyed beyond mere corruption. Expressing deep concern over the state of the nation, he further noted that there is currently no avenue left for the public to seek genuine justice.
