Former President Mohamed Nasheed has stated that young people seeking political opportunities should look to the courage shown by Meekail Ahmed Naseem, the Member of Parliament for South Galolhu constituency, as an example.
Nasheed made these remarks while speaking at an event held at Artificial Beach to celebrate the victory in Friday's MDP chairperson election.
Speaking at the event, Nasheed stated that Meekail had contacted him following the election results. Nasheed further expressed his gratitude towards Meekail.
Nasheed stated that the hard work and determination displayed by Meekail during the Chairperson election campaign would always be a source of immense pride and satisfaction for him. He further noted that Meekail’s efforts serve as an exemplary model for the rising generation and all young people aspiring to pursue political opportunities.

Nasheed stated that he calls upon all his rivals to unite and work together to hold the current administration accountable, emphasizing that efforts to bring about a change in government must begin immediately.
During the chairperson's election campaign, Nasheed and Meekail visited numerous islands across the country to meet with MDP members. Both figures highlighted their vision for party reforms and emphasized the critical importance of securing a victory for the MDP in the upcoming presidential election.
Nasheed secured a landslide victory in the MDP chairperson election held on Friday. This marks the second time he will serve in this capacity. In addition to his previous tenure as chairperson, Nasheed also served as the president of the MDP for a significant period.
