The Maldives played to a draw against Bhutan in their second group stage match of the ongoing SAFF Championship held in the Maldives.
The match played at the Galolhu National Stadium on Wednesday night ended in a goalless draw.
Both teams displayed a highly competitive performance throughout the match, with each side creating several goal-scoring opportunities. Maldives captain Mohamed Ilaan Imran had a notable chance to take the lead, while teammates Ethan Ibrahim Zaki and Aidhu Ahmed Javeez also saw significant openings to find the back of the net.
This was the Maldives' second match of the tournament. In their opening fixture, the team suffered a 3-2 defeat at the hands of Sri Lanka. With this result, the Maldives' prospects of securing a spot in the semifinals through their own performance have been diminished.
The Maldives has lost control over its own fate in the tournament. Among the four competing teams, only Nepal has secured a spot in the semifinals so far, following two consecutive victories.
To keep their semifinal hopes alive, the Maldives must secure a victory against Nepal in their match on Friday afternoon. Should they win, the team will then have to await the outcome of the match between Sri Lanka and Bhutan, scheduled for Friday night.
