The government's removal of Mayor Adam Azim’s campaign billboard on Malé’s outer ring road has sparked widespread public condemnation, with many labeling it a low-level political stunt. In response, the Mayor emphasized that development projects should be carried out through consultation to avoid damaging property, asserting that while campaign posters can be torn down, the public's affection cannot be erased. This incident occurred just as the country prepares for the upcoming local council elections.

A controversy has emerged following reports that the government used an excavator to remove and destroy a campaign billboard belonging to Male' City Mayor Adam Azim.
With only about six days remaining until the local council elections, Mayor Adam Azim stated that the large billboard on the outer road was removed by tearing through its frame.
In response to the matter, Mayor Adam Azim stated that while campaign posters may be removed, the public's affection for him and the value of his service cannot be erased. "Posters can be taken down, but the love in the hearts of the people and the appreciation for the services rendered cannot be removed," the Mayor said.
The Mayor noted that while preparations are currently underway to widen the road in the area fronting Nasandhura, such development projects must be managed through consultation with relevant stakeholders. He emphasized the need for a framework that allows for adequate notice and ensures measures are in place to prevent damage to property.
He described the destruction and removal of the installation located in front of the BML building as a deeply regrettable act. With the election fever intensifying across Male' City, marked by billboards and advertisements from various political figures, many are condemning this incident as a malicious political act.
