Former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has stated that the number of employees in state utility companies has surpassed 15,000, alleging that jobs were distributed as a means of purchasing votes.
Speaking at a campaign rally in Addu City, Solih stated that the government’s sole strategy for securing votes is the mass issuance of jobs through state-owned enterprises. He noted that as a result of this continuous hiring, the government’s utility companies now employ more than 15,000 staff.

Solih stated that a "no" vote must be cast in the referendum as a means of rejecting those specific policies.
Furthermore, highlighting that the Maldives can only be developed through a decentralized system, Solih stated that decentralization is the only viable way to govern the nation. He added that there must be specific plans in place for regional development.
