Legal expert and Legal Director of the opposition MDP, Ahmed Mauroof, has stated that the government's justifications for holding presidential and parliamentary elections concurrently are baseless.
He made these remarks while speaking on RaajjeTV’s "Noonekey" campaign program.
Mauroof stated that while the government highlights the benefits of synchronizing the presidential and parliamentary elections ahead of the upcoming referendum, some of their arguments remain inconsistent. He specifically criticized the government's claim that holding both elections simultaneously would create a more favorable environment for investors, questioning the validity of such assertions.
"I have never heard an investor claim they are unwilling to invest because there are too many elections. Therefore, these are baseless arguments that hold no water," Mauroof said.
Mauroof alleged that the government is attempting to disillusion the public regarding the upcoming referendum. He further stated that the administration intends to disrupt and complicate the voting process. According to Mauroof, the effort to conduct elections in a manner that lacks clarity for the citizens is a clear indication of underlying ulterior motives.
