Despite the government's claims of implementing cost-cutting measures, it has been revealed that the recently announced vacancies at the Road Development Corporation (RDC) will incur a monthly expenditure of 1.6 million Rufiyaa.
The government has announced the recruitment of over 140 employees for RDC sites at a time when council elections are fast approaching. This move also comes amid a period of significant global austerity, as nations worldwide implement drastic cost-cutting measures in response to the outbreak of war in the Middle East.
The Road Development Corporation (RDC) is recruiting the highest number of employees from Ha. Uligan, with approximately 50 positions to be filled. Additionally, the corporation has announced vacancies for 42 employees from AA. Rasdhoo, 24 from K. Kaashidhoo, 12 from Lh. Naifaru, and 13 from Th. Madifushi. Decisions have also been made to hire 32 employees from N. Miladhoo and one from Lh. Hinnavaru.
Based on these figures, the monthly expenditure for the salaries of newly recruited staff in Uligan alone will amount to MVR 499,400. Similarly, MVR 419,400 will be spent on staff salaries in Rasdhoo. Furthermore, monthly salary expenditures will include MVR 217,000 in Kaashidhoo, MVR 115,000 in Naifaru, MVR 105,000 in Madifushi, and MVR 310,000 in Miladhoo, while MVR 9,000 will be spent on the staff recruited from Hinnavaru.
Critics argue that while other nations are taking proactive measures to cut spending and freezing new recruitment, the government’s continued actions demonstrate a lack of seriousness regarding fiscal discipline.
