MDP's Male' City manifesto for upcoming elections, officially launched
Centered on fostering prosperous livelihoods, creating a business-friendly environment, and empowering citizens, this manifesto outlines a comprehensive plan to guarantee housing rights, resolve parking issues, and expand local tourism in Villimale. The roadmap prioritizes social well-being through various community projects, while also aiming to modernize Male's road infrastructure and implement a permanent solution for waste management.

The Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has officially launched its manifesto for Male' City ahead of the local council elections, titled "Amaanaiytheri Khidhumaiy, Male' City ge Vindhu" which roughly translates as "Trustworthy Service, the Pulse of Male' City".
The manifesto was launched during a special ceremony held by the MDP at Artificial Beach on Sunday night.
This manifesto is built upon three primary pillars.
It is a vision of "Fahi Dhiriulhun" to ensure citizens experience the full joys of life, "Viyafaariyah Fahi" to guarantee the prosperity of commerce, and "Rayyithunnah Aaru" to secure the empowerment of the people.
The manifesto outlines a key objective under the "Fahi Dhiriulhun" (Prosperous Life) initiative to incorporate Hulhumale', Gulhifalhu, Giraavaru Lagoon, and Uthuru Thila Falhu within the jurisdiction of Male' City. This includes expediting the handover of land plots already allocated in these areas, ensuring the provision of essential services, and prioritizing their development into inhabited communities. Furthermore, the manifesto pledges to safeguard the legal rights of individuals allocated land and flats under various housing schemes. To support this, a revolving housing fund will be established within a sustainable financial framework to facilitate home construction. Additionally, the redevelopment of the Sinamale' flats will be undertaken as part of these efforts.
Furthermore, the manifesto outlines plans to facilitate the demolition of dilapidated buildings and significantly expand the Male' City Council's role in national housing policy decisions.
According to the manifesto, the development of Male' City's roads to modern standards includes the introduction of multipurpose parking buildings and neighborhood parking zones to resolve the city's parking crisis. Furthermore, the plan outlines the transformation of narrow alleys into pleasant public spaces, the installation of modern bus stops and traffic lights, and the implementation of a vehicle quota system to regulate the number of vehicles in the city.
Furthermore, in an effort to expand religious services, initiatives will be undertaken to modernize mosques, establish Quranic classes for adults and Hifz programs, and enhance religious awareness through various competitions.
The manifesto states that waste collection efforts will be expanded to ensure a cleaner Male' City. It further pledges to raise public awareness regarding waste management issues and to eliminate the obstacles faced by service providers.
Highlighting the commitment to creating favorable opportunities for entrepreneurs, the manifesto outlines plans to establish SME and startup hubs, alongside hosting business expos specifically targeting youth and women entrepreneurs. Furthermore, to expand tourism within Male' City, the manifesto pledges to designate Villimale' as a dedicated zone for local tourism.
Furthermore, the manifesto states that the management of the cat shelter will be transferred to the City Council.
The party pledged to address the challenges facing Male' City through a holistic approach to urban development. The MDP manifesto also includes plans to conduct further activities and ensure equal opportunities for all citizens.
These initiatives include providing venues and arrangements for first-time wedding receptions free of charge, hosting national cultural activities, and organizing sports programs for all age groups. The plan also encompasses mental health services, dedicated study hubs for students, walk-in daycare facilities, and the establishment of essential healthcare services. Furthermore, the project aims to streamline arrangements for blood donors and establish specialized units to address domestic violence and substance abuse. Additionally, plans are underway to develop a transitional support center to assist vulnerable individuals who are homeless and living on the streets of Male'.
