Is the bridge promised for Addu City a "monster rising from the depths of the sea?": Abdulla Shahid
Shahid has strongly criticized the government, accusing it of neglecting the development of Addu City. Speaking at a campaign event in Addu, Shahid noted the lack of physical progress on major projects such as the bridge and the Hankede development, alleging that the administration is attempting to deceive the public. Furthermore, he characterized the proposal to hold concurrent elections under the guise of cost-cutting as a deceptive political maneuver and urged citizens to reject the government's authoritarian policies.

MDP President Abdulla Shahid has questioned whether the bridge President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu promised to build in Addu City is a "sea monster" emerging from the depths of the ocean.
Speaking at the opening ceremony of the campaign offices for Fathimath Hijra, the MDP candidate for the President of the Addu City Women's Development Committee (WDC), as well as Hussain Zareer, the City Council candidate for the Hithadhoo Rasgedhara constituency, and Anusha Mofeed, the WDC candidate for the same constituency, Shahid stated that Addu City has been profoundly neglected. He noted that while the current administration highlights the Addu City bridge project in every campaign, the bridge has yet to materialize above the water line.
Highlighting the neglect of Addu City, Shahid stated that this proud city serves as the primary stronghold of the reform movement. He further noted that as the current administration approaches its two-and-a-half-year mark, it has failed to deliver any meaningful progress for Addu City.
Do you see any development in this city? No! Do you see any progress on the projects that were already underway? After the fireworks display for the Hankede project faded, have you seen anything else happening? No! Not at all! Addu City has been profoundly neglected. And what of the bridge they promised to build? Is it some sort of mythical creature rising from the depths of the ocean? Certainly, no human being has been seen working on it. I have no idea if they are communicating with the King of the Sea to carry out some underwater work, but it is clear that no humans are currently working on that project.MDP President Abdulla Shahid
Shahid has called on the current administration to stop deceiving the public. He further asserted that the residents of Addu City would resoundingly reject any proposal put forward by President Muizzu. Shahid stated that the question President Muizzu is essentially asking the public is: "Do you agree to forfeit the opportunity for us to consult you and seek your opinion on matters of governance?"
Furthermore, Shahid asserted that the attempt to consolidate the two elections under the guise of cost-cutting is a deceptive maneuver. He noted that while the government speaks of fiscal responsibility, figures released by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs reveal that 54 million Rufiyaa is spent every month on staff salaries at overseas embassies alone.
Shahid has called on the public to deliver a resounding "no" to the "Muizzu vote," urging citizens to prevent any opportunity for the rise of authoritarianism and tyranny.
