Highlighting that the cost of maintaining democracy in the Maldives is not excessive, Nasheed stated that one of the greatest benefits of a multi-party system is the establishment of a taxation framework, which has significantly boosted state revenue. He further noted that tax revenue currently exceeds 30 billion Rufiyaa. He emphasized that holding elections and increasing public participation are the primary drivers of national development.
Furthermore, Nasheed stated that any initiative that diminishes public participation will not gain the support of the people.
Additionally, the MDP has decided to hold a major protest on March 21st. The MDP stated that the party will stand up and advocate for the people against any actions that infringe upon their rights.
