Registration officially opens for public referendum to determine whether presidential and parliamentary elections should be held concurrently
EC has scheduled a public referendum on synchronizing presidential and parliamentary elections to coincide with the local council elections on April 4. The commission has opened the re-registration process for the vote, with a deadline of February 22. Eligible voters can submit their re-registration applications through the commission's online portal or via the 'My Portal' service using eFaas.

The Elections Commission has opened the re-registration process for the public referendum regarding the proposal to hold presidential and parliamentary elections concurrently.
Preparations are underway to conduct this vote alongside the Local Council and Women's Development Committee elections scheduled for April 4.
President Muizzu has issued a decree to hold a public referendum to seek the people's opinion on synchronizing presidential and parliamentary elections. This decision comes prior to the ratification of the bill for the 8th Amendment to the Constitution, which was passed to hold both elections simultaneously.
The window for re-registration is now open for individuals who wish to vote at a location other than their currently registered permanent address for the upcoming referendum. The re-registration period commenced at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday and will remain open until 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 22. Applications for re-registration can be submitted online through the Elections Commission’s 'Re-registration Portal' or via the 'MyPortal' platform.
The Elections Commission has stated that individuals applying for re-registration via the online portal must submit a copy of a valid official identification document along with a live photograph. Applications through the 'My Portal' platform will only be accepted from verified eFaas accounts.
