President of the council of Henbadhoo island in Noonu atoll, Hussain Aboobakuru has stressed that no progress has been made on the construction of the island’s turf football ground, nine months after President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu pledged to complete the project.
During the president’s visit to Henbadhoo in July 2025, the island’s youth raised concerns about the absence of a proper turf ground and formally requested the development of such a facility.
Speaking to RaajjeMV, Aboobakuru stressed the importance of a turf football ground for young people across all islands. He explained that the youth of Henbadhoo had prioritized this request due to its significance to their community and to athletic development.
The council president further noted that Muizzu had personally assured residents that a high-quality football ground would be developed and completed. Following this assurance, the island council consulted with local youth and submitted the required design plans to the government. Despite these steps, the government has yet to issue any constructive response.
It was also highlighted that no physical work has begun at the site in the nine months since the pledge was made, and that no information regarding the status of the project has been shared with the island council.
The council president conveyed the community’s urgent demand for the government to accelerate and complete the project. As the first three years of the Muizzu administration continue, residents of Henbadhoo have expressed dissatisfaction, stating that no meaningful development projects are being effectively implemented on the island.
