Fahi Union and Uthuru Thila Falhu Union have once again called for the housing rights of all citizens who received land titles in the Greater Malé Region during former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih's administration, to be guaranteed.
In a joint press conference held on Wednesday by Fahi Union, an NGO advocating for the rights of social housing scheme recipients, and Uthuru Thila Falhu Union Spokesperson Sobah Rasheed stated that the current administration is obstructing the housing security previously ensured for citizens. He further alleged that President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has repeatedly breached the pledges he made regarding this matter.
Referring to the housing projects initiated by the former administration, Sobah emphasized the necessity of proceeding with the development of Uthuru Thila Falhu, Hulhumalé Phase III, and Giraavaru Lagoon.
He noted that it is difficult to comprehend why these existing projects have been stalled in favor of reclaiming Fushidhiggaru Lagoon, a location far from Malé to develop it under the name "Ras Malé."
Sobah asserted that the government must guarantee housing for those who were issued land titles during the previous administration and must develop the specific areas where those plots were allocated.
He concluded by stating that there is no justification for presenting entirely new projects or "dreams" to the public in a manner that marginalizes those who have already been promised housing.
