SUS pulls out of first division as New Radiant’s comeback rumors grow
Struggling First Division club SUS bows out of football due to financial woes, creating a buzz around New Radiant's potential comeback to fill the vacant spot. With heavyweight political backing and fresh management, New Radiant might finally secure their long-awaited return to top-flight football.

Super United Sports (SUS), which had been competing in the First Division, has withdrawn from the league.

In a message sent to media outlets, the Football Association of Maldives (FAM) stated that SUS has informed the organization that they will not be able to compete in the 2025/2026 football season.

SUS notified FAM of this decision last Sunday, citing their financial situation as the reason for their inability to compete in the First Division. This decision was made by the SUS board.

As SUS has decided to withdraw from the First Division, FAM has stated that they will take action against the club in accordance with the tournament regulations.

With SUS withdrawing from the First Division, rumors had previously circulated about New Radiant Sports Club potentially taking their place in the First Division. A few days ago, New Radiant's Chairman Ahmed Mubeen had stated that New would soon announce some good news.

According to information from various from various sources, the good news Mubeen referred to is New's return to the First Division, potentially taking the spot vacated by SUS.

New had previously made several attempts to enter the First Division. However, despite competing in the Second Division twice, New was unable to secure promotion. In the most recent Second Division, Odi Sports Club won and earned a spot in the First Division. Victory Sports Club, who played in the final, also secured a place in the First Division.

The new management that recently took over New Radiant includes senior government officials as well as members of the People's Majlis. As such, influential political figures from the government and members are working with New.
