Mohamed Naail has broken Maldives’ youth record for the 200-meter dash, in his run at the ongoing 2nd Asian Youth Athletics Championships hosted by Thailand.

The 17-year-old accomplished this feat while having sustained a hamstring injury in a previous dash.

Naail had out-performed himself after the injury: while had completed the 200-meter dash prior to his injury at 22.54 seconds, he completed the dash after in 22.41 seconds.

In doing so, he broke the national youth record, set by Ashfan Ali at the Commonwealth Games.

The national record for the 200-meter dash is yet held by Hassan Saaid, who had finished in 21.15 seconds. Saaid set this record at the South Asian games in India last year.
