The body of the youth who died after being stabbed with a sharp object in Maavah island of Laamu atoll, has been brought to the capital Malé City for further investigation.

His body was brought to Malé City late Monday.

The Maldives Police Service (MPS) has since recovered the knife believed to have been used in the fatal stabbing of Moosa Ibrahim in Maavah island. The police team recovered the knife by conducting a dive search in the sea.

The victim of the stabbing case was a 29-year-old, native to Maavah. Information indicates that he was unexpectedly attacked from behind. Police have since arrested a suspect in connection with the case.

The arrested individual is Mohamed Ibrahim, 29 from Nolhivaranfaru island of Haa Dhaal atoll. The police institution has revealed that the perpetrator has a record of drug-related offenses.

The police institution went on to state that based on their initial investigation, this appears to be an assault that occurred between two individuals. The incident took place around 10pm on Monday in the area of the volleyball court on the island.

MPS highlighted that the incident of a person being stabbed with a sharp object in Maavah was reported at 10:12am on Monday. Moosa was taken to the health center with injuries at around 10:22am. MPS stated that according to information from the health center, he was already deceased when brought in.

The police have stated that the arrested individual has a record of drug-related offenses.
