Two foreign fishing vessels from Sri Lanka were seized by the Maldives National Defence Force Coast Guard for illegally operating in the Maldives' Exclusive Economic Zone
The seized vessels are being transported to the capital Malé City to be handed over to the Maldives Police Service for legal proceedings
The Maldives authorities took action against illegal fishing activities in their maritime territory

Two foreign fishing vessels illegally operating in the Maldives' Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) have been taken into custody by the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) Coast Guard.

In a message shared with the media, MNDF revealed that two foreign fishing vessels were brought under the control of MNDF Coast Guard Huravee some time on June 22.

MNDF also highlighted that the seized vessels are two Sri Lankan fishing boats.

MNDF went on to confirm that efforts were underway to bring the two fishing vessels to the capital Malé City to hand them over to the Maldives Police Service (MPS) for legal proceedings in accordance with the law.
