The Maldives has been scheduled to compete for third place in the Commonwealth Beach Handball Tournament after falling to Sri Lanka in the semi-finals on Sunday evening.
In a high-stakes rematch between two familiar foes, Sri Lanka avenged their earlier loss in the group stage with a straight-sets victory over the hosts. The tightly contested first set ended 14-12 in Sri Lanka's favor, before they pulled away decisively in the second, winning 24-14 to book their spot in the final.
Earlier in the tournament, Maldives had put on a strong showing in the league stage, securing three wins from five matches. The tean notched victories against Sri Lanka, South Africa, and India, while suffering defeats at the hands of Pakistan and Bangladesh.
In the other semi-final, Pakistan swept past Bangladesh in straight sets to secure their place in the title match.
With the final now set between Pakistan and Sri Lanka, Maldives will look to finish on a high note as they take on Bangladesh in the third-place playoff.
