Investigations reveal the smuggling operation was orchestrated by an individual named Dinuka from Dubai, with the vessel loading narcotics from the Maldives
Six individuals were arrested

The vessel ‘Seedevi’, seized by the Sri Lankan Navy in the country’s western waters, reportedly loaded a large consignment of narcotics from the Maldives before heading to Sri Lanka.

According to Sri Lankan media, authorities intercepted the vessel in the western maritime zone and later brought it to Dikkowita harbor, where it was found carrying 251 kilograms and 18 grams of crystal methamphetamine and 85 kilograms of heroin. The total street value of the seized drugs is estimated at around five billion Sri Lankan rupees.

Six individuals were arrested from the vessel. The Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court has authorized their detention until November 8 for further questioning. Police have also detained the vessel’s owner for a seven-day interrogation.

Investigations indicate that the smuggling operation was orchestrated by an individual identified as “Dinuka,” believed to be residing in Dubai. According to Sri Lankan Police, information about the vessel’s stop in the Maldives to load narcotics emerged during the interrogation of the arrested owner in Galle.

Officials noted that ‘Seedevi’ was disguised as a long-term fishing vessel but carried out no fishing activities during its voyage. The operation is being jointly investigated by the Police Narcotics Bureau and Naval Intelligence officers.

Despite the mounting evidence suggesting the vessel’s link to the Maldives, the Maldivian government has yet to issue any statement on the matter.
