The woman who sustained critical injuries in a collision between a car and a motorcycle on Thinadhoo Island of Gaaf Dhaal Atoll, on 7 May 2025, has passed away.

The young woman injured in the accident in Thinadhoo three months ago died on Thursday while receiving treatment in the ICU of Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH).

The accident in Thinadhoo occurred on May 7, near the old Friday Mosque of the island, when a car collided with a motorcycle. In the accident, a 31-year-old Maldivian woman riding the motorcycle was injured.

In connection with the accident, the woman suffered severe serious injuries. She was initially treated at Dr. Abdul Samad Memorial Hospital in Thinadhoo. Later, she was urgently brought to the capital Malé City for further treatment and began receiving care at IGMH.

The woman's head was severely injured in the accident.

According to earlier information from the Maldives Police Service (MPS), the woman underwent brain surgery at Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH). Following the procedure, her condition worsened due to an infection, and she was subsequently receiving treatment in the ICU.

The woman passed away on Thursday. Reports indicate that she is survived by her nine-year-old son.

Following her passing, the funeral prayer for the woman, who had been receiving ICU treatment for injuries sustained in the accident, was held on Thursday night after the Isha prayer at Aasahara Mosque.

Although the police institution earlier stated that the car driver involved in the accident was summoned for questioning and that the investigation of the case was ongoing, they have not since disclosed any details about it.
