BWF suspended the Badminton Association of Maldives, citing third-party influence on the association

The World Badminton Federation (BWF) has suspended the Badminton Association of Maldives.

The world badminton body has decided to suspend the Badminton Association of Maldives and has informed the Maldives Olympic Committee (MOC) of this decision. The MOC has since shared this information with the media as well.

Recently, the MOC and the Commissioner of Sports appointed an ad hoc committee to oversee the affairs of the Badminton Association. The three-member committee was appointed after the national status of the Badminton Association was also revoked.

The World Badminton Federation suspended the Badminton Association of Maldives, citing third-party influence on the association.

While the term of the Badminton Association's executive committee has expired, a new executive committee has not been elected even after a year. In addition to this, the necessary changes to the association's governing regulations have not been implemented. Therefore, the ad hoc committee was formed to complete these tasks.

To put the Badminton Association's affairs back on track, BWF had previously advised forming a three-member committee. The MOC and the Sports Commissioner had suggested including a member from the badminton community and a legal expert in the committee. However, a decision on the matter was not finalized.

The Commissioner of Sports attempted to seek input from the BWF on the matter. However, as the process began to drag on, after consultations, it was decided to form an ad hoc committee, which has now been established.
