Minister of Homeland Security and Technology Ali Ihusan has stressed that corruption hinders development and weakens governance, and that more efforts are needed to combat this issue.
He made these remarks while speaking at the Second Ministerial Meeting of Anti-Corruption Law Enforcement Agencies in OIC Member States.
Minister Ihusan stressed that new innovations and technology are important tools in the fight against corruption.
The minister assured that the Maldives will remain committed to all efforts against corruption and will work to combat corruption to achieve sustainable development and protect the well-being of the people.
Highlighting that the OIC is a powerful platform for sharing best practices in preventing corruption, the Maldivian minister said that success in this effort requires strong cooperation between countries.
He also said that these efforts will create regional connections, strengthen institutions, and provide solutions to the challenges of combating corruption.
Further, Ihusan noted that corruption erodes the social fabric of society, hinders development, and weakens governance and stressed that it is an obligation for Muslim countries to maintain principles based on transparency, justice, and trust as required by Islamic faith.
As such, he assured that the Maldives will remain committed to fight against corruption at all levels.
On behalf of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, Ihusan invited all member countries to the Joint International Forum on "Enhancing Integrity in the Tourism Sector" to be held in the Maldives from May 6 – 7 in 2025, in collaboration with the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
