Maldives has faced an embarrassing defeat against Indonesia in their opening game in the group stage of the Under-20 Asian Cup qualifiers.
Maldives is in Group F of the qualifiers currently taking place in Indonesia.
The group also includes Indonesia, Yemen, and Timor-Leste.
The game played on Wednesday saw Maldives losing to Indonesia with a score of 4 – 0.
Indonesia secured the win with the three goals scored in the second half.
Although Maldives put up a good fight in the first half of the game, they couldn’t maintain the performance in the second half.
With a goal from Aditya Warman in the 52nd minute, Indonesia took the lead.
Three minutes later, Indonesia's Figo Denis scored the team’s second goal. He came on as a substitute player.
Two minutes after the second goal, Indonesia netted a third goal by Toni Firmansyah from a free kick.
The winning team’s fourth goal was scored by Jens Raven in the 66th minute.
Maldives, who has lost their first match, will face Yemen in their second game, scheduled for Friday.
