A man has been jailed for attempting to purchase drugs for drug abuse.
Arrested in connection with the case is a 49-year-old Maldivian man.
MPS sought a court order for his remand, from the Criminal Court. The court order states that he is to be remanded at a custodial jail.
He has been remanded for 15 days.
His remand will expire on May 10.
One of the reasons cited for his remand was that sufficient evidence has been produced to prove that he had committed the alleged crime.
A statement from the police officer that attended the scene, was submitted as evidence.
The court order stated that the condition of remand was defined as a situation in accordance with Section 49 of the Maldives’ Constitution and Sections 59 and 60 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, as he could be a threat to the security and safety of the community.
Further, the reason cited for remanding him in custody was as the provisions in Sections 13(c) (1) and (3) of the Code of Criminal Procedure relating to the trial, was deemed satisfactory.
He was arrested in accordance with the Code of Criminal Procedure.
The man has a previous criminal record as well.
Authorities revealed that his urine sample had tested positive for drugs as well.
The suspect, upon being presented to the court for his remand, had confessed that he had gone to buy the drugs.
