Salary increments for police, MNDF
Police salary hiked by 35 percent from March

This is the first time since 2009 that the salaries of police personnel has been hiked

The salaries of all police personnel will be increased by 35 percent from this month onwards.

This was announced by the Spokesperson of the Maldives Police Service (MPS), Chief Superintendent of Police Ahmed Shifan.

Taking to social media platform ‘X’ to provide updates on efforts to increase the salary of police officers, Shifan revealed that the new pay structure includes an allowance for the post, job allowance and an allowance related to the officer’s work and efforts, apart from the basic salary.

Shifan revealed that this is the first time since 2009, that the salaries of police personnel have been hiked, with the inclusion of basic allowance.

Further, he noted that the allowances given earlier would be revised to introduce allowances in connection with efforts to modernize the pay structure.

Among police personnel, constables are presently paid the lowest salary.

Constables presenting receive MVR 11,810. However, with the revised pay structure, they will be entitled to at least MVR 15,500 per month.

Shifan added that with the inclusion of the new allowances, about MVR 17,000 will be paid to each officer per month.

An additional MVR 1,000 allowance would be given to patrolmen and officers taking duties at midnight would be entitled to receive a MVR 750 allowance.

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu announced salary increments for officers of the Maldives Police Service (MPS) and the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) in February, while speaking at the second session of the 'Ahaa' public forum held to address questions from the public.

The president earlier said the government has planned to increase the salaries of those working in the police institution and armed forces, from March 2024.
