The sentencing of RaajjeTV Chief Operating Officer Hussain Fiyaz Moosa has been set for Thursday.

Criminal Court announced this on Monday’s hearing of the case.

In Monday’s hearing, the Court read the summary charges against Fiyaz.

Fiyaz has been charged with “touching an officer without consent,” over an arrest made in November 2015, while covering a bomb scare in the capital Male’ City. While it is classified as a third-degree crime, the basic penalty for it is, one month and six days in prison.

State had filed the charges on Fiyaz, alleging that he had attacked a police officer while officers were attempting to disperse the crowd near Mulee-aage, with officers working to defuse a bomb which was discovered in the area.

In the last hearings held in February, the Court had heard the witness statements from both the prosecution and the defence. Court had accepted the witness statements of three witnesses presented by the State, rejecting four other witnesses.

RaajjeTV journalists Mohamed Wisam, Leevaan Ali Nasir and Murshid Abdul Hakeem had all testified that Fiyaz had not touched the officer or refused to comply with the orders of the authorities.
