The first couple has visited the Xiamen Free Trade Zone in China’s Fujian province.

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu and First Lady Sajidha Mohamed visited the Xiamen Free Trade Zone as part of their ongoing state visit to China, upon the invitation of Chinese President Xi Jinping.

The visit saw representatives from the Xiamen Free Trade Zone presenting an introductory video, following which Muizzu and Sajidha took a tour and inquired about significant areas in the zone.

A high-level delegation of government officials accompanies the first couple during their state visit.

The Maldivian leader has undertaken a visit to China at a time relations between India and Maldives have soured once again, over posts on social media platform ‘X’ by deputy ministers close to the president.

While many have been calling on the government to relieve them of their duties, all the government has done so far is suspend the deputy ministers over the racist and Xenophobic comments they made.
