Visitor Economic Council has briefed local media about its functions.
The newly established Visitor Economic Council briefed the media on its functions during a press conference held at the President’s Office on Monday.
Comprised of cabinet members, the Visitor Economic Council shared insights into its progress during the presser, with co-chairs and other ministers shedding light on the council’s purpose.
Emphasizing on the council’s plans to implement its mandate, Minister of Economic Development and Trade Mohamed Saeed stated that the tourism sector currently contributes USD 4.5 billion to the economy.
He added that the council aims to increase this contribution to USD six billion in alignment with the short-term objectives of the incumbent administration.
The projected revenue increase involves diversifying tourism, exploring untapped avenues such as sports tourism, cultural tourism, education tourism and health tourism.
Further, the Visitor Economic Council also addressed questions posed by the media at the presser.
The Visitor Economic Council was formed during the first Cabinet meeting of the newly inaugurated administration of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu.
President Muizzu chairs the Visitor Economic Council.
The council is co-chaired by Minister Saeed and Minister of Tourism Ibrahim Faisal.
The Visitor Economic Council was formed to mirror the president’s vision to expand and diversify tourism which is the backbone of the country's economy.
