A forensic team and an investigation team have arrived in Makunudhoo island of Haa Dhaal atoll, to investigate the explosion of a gas cylinder that rocked the island and killed two individuals on Saturday.
The Maldives Police Service (MPS) has confirmed the arrival of the investigation and forensic teams on the island.
According to eyewitnesses, chunks of the victims' bodies were discovered scattered across a vast region in a distance.
MPS revealed that the two teams were deployed to Makunudhoo from neighboring Kulhudhuffushi City, to investigate the explosion.
Officers of the police institution were dispatched to the scene of the explosion shortly after.
Sources report that the explosion took place near the island’s fish market, located in the southern end of the harbor.
MPS revealed that the two individuals that died in the explosion were employed by the contractor for the land reclamation project to build an airport in Makunudhoo.
