Two individuals have been arrested in two separate drug operations.
The Maldives Police Service (MPS) revealed that the two operations were carried out in Maavah island of Laamu atoll and Vilufushi island of Thaa atoll respectively.
The operations stemmed from intel reports that drugs were being trafficked on the islands.
The operation in Maavah island was carried out by the police officers stationed on the island, on Thursday evening.
A 21-year-old was arrested from inside a house in connection with the case.
Officers confiscated 18 rubber packets filled with suspected narcotics, as part of the operation.
The operation in Vilufushi was conducted jointly by the Police Intelligence Unit and the officers stationed on the island on July 5.
During the operation, officers arrested a 28-year-old and raided his room under a court order.
A piece of cellophane containing suspected narcotics, was confiscated from the suspect’s room.
The suspect has since been remanded for a period of 15 days by the Vilufushi Magistrate Court, at a facility allocated by the Ministry of Home Affairs.
Both cases are under further investigation.
