Maldives and the Seychelles has exchanged a number of key agreements.
The key agreements were exchanged between the Maldives and the Seychelles, on Monday, during a special ceremony held at the President's Office.
During the ceremony, a total of four key agreements were exchanged, marking a significant step forward in bilateral relations between the two countries.
The agreements exchanged are;
Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Maldives and the Government of the Republic of Seychelles on short-stay visa waiver
The agreement was signed by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Maldives, Abdulla Shahid and the Minister for Foreign Affairs and Tourism of the Seychelles, Sylvestre Radegonde. The agreement would ease existing travel restrictions for nationals of both countries, who would be permitted to travel visa-free for 30 days. This would also strengthen the socio-economic relationship between both countries.
Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Maldives and the Government of the Republic of Seychelles Concerning Air Services
The agreement was signed by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Maldives Abdulla Shahid and the Minister for Foreign Affairs and Tourism of Seychelles Sylvestre Radegonde. The agreement would facilitate international air travel, promote economic growth, and ensure the safe and efficient operation of air services between the Maldives and Seychelles.
Protocol between the Government of the Republic of Maldives and the Government of the Republic of Seychelles on the Cooperation to Combat Transnational Organised Crime and other Maritime Security and Safety Threats
The protocol was signed by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Maldives, Abdulla Shahid and the Minister for Foreign Affairs and Tourism of Seychelles, Sylvestre Radegonde. The objective of this Protocol is to consolidate and further strengthen the cooperation between the two parties in search and rescue, combating piracy and other maritime security threats. The protocol would further strengthen efforts to ensure maritime safety and security.
Memorandum of Understanding for Youth Development Cooperation between the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Community Empowerment of the Government of the Republic of Maldives and the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Family of the Government of the Republic of Seychelles
The MoU was signed by the Minister of Youth, Sports and Community Empowerment of the Republic of Maldives Ahmed Mahloof, and the Minister for Foreign Affairs and Tourism of Seychelles, Sylvestre Radegonde. This MoU aims to share the knowledge, experience, and resources between the Maldives and Seychelles and develop long-term cooperation in various areas, including capacity building and youth exchange programs.
President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih and the President of the Republic of Seychelles, Wavel Ramkalawan, presided over the agreement exchange ceremony.
The ceremony was also attended by senior officials of both governments, including the Vice President of the Maldives Faisal Naseem.
The key agreements between the Maldives and the Seychelles has been signed as part of the state visit of the Seychellois President's state visit to the Maldives.
The Seychellois President and First Lady, Linda Ramkalawan arrived in the Maldives on Sunday afternoon, following the official invitation of President.
The ceremony to officially welcome the Seychelles’ First Couple was hosted by the government on Monday morning, at the Republic Square.
After the welcoming formalities, President Ramkalawan was escorted to the President's Office in a cultural procession. Upon arrival at the President's Office, he signed the Visitors' Book and sat down with President Solih for official talks.
Afterwards, President Ramkalawan along with President Solih, presided over the agreement exchange ceremony.
The Seychelles’ president’s ongoing state visit to the archipelago nation mirrors the close ties enjoyed between Maldives and Seychelles.
The visit is also expected to lead to further collaboration between the two countries.
Diplomatic relations were established between the Maldives and Seychelles on 1 July 1980.
