Maldivian nationals travelling to Cambodia have been exempted from visa.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs revealed this via a statement publicized on Thursday.
As such, the ministry noted that Maldivians travelling to Cambodia will be exempted from visa effective May 4.
With the visa exemption, Maldivians who hold valid Diplomatic, Official and Ordinary passports will be permitted to enter and stay in Cambodia a maximum period of thirty (30) days from the day of their entry.
As per the visa exemption agreement signed between Maldives and Cambodia on January 16 this year, Maldivians intending to stay for a longer period or to work or to attend an educational institution or conduct business in Cambodia, will need to obtain an appropriate visa prior to travel.
The Maldivian government sees the visa exemption to Cambodia as a commitment to further strengthen the bilateral relations between the two countries.
This is also an important milestone that will accelerate stronger people-to-people contact, business and investment opportunities for both the Maldives and Cambodia.
The visa exemption agreement was signed between the two countries during an official visit the Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen made to the island nation at the beginning of the year. The agreement aimed to ease existing travel restrictions for holders of diplomatic, official, and ordinary passports of both the Maldives and Cambodia and to further solidify the socio-economic relationship between the two countries.
The agreement was signed between Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid and Cambodia’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Prak Sokhon.
Diplomatic relations were established between Maldives and Cambodia on 21 September 1995.
