Foreign Minister Abdulla Shaidh, has met with President Ranil Wickremesinghe and Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka.
Minister Shahid met with the Sri Lankan President and Prime Minister on Saturday, as part of his ongoing visit to the country.
During his meeting with the President of Sri Lanka, Minister Shahid reflected on the traditionally close ties between Maldives and Sri Lanka.
The Minister reiterated that bilateral relations and the people to people contact between Maldives and Sri Lanka has continued to grow.
Additionally, the Maldivian Minister held discussion on the positive developments of Maldives-Sri Lanka relations.
Minister Shahid and President Wickremesinghe also identified areas for further collaboration.
During his visit to Prime Minister Gunawardena, Minister Shahid reaffirmed his commitment to consolidating the deep ties of friendship existing between the Maldives and Sri Lanka.
Furthermore, the Maldivian Minister and the Sri Lankan Prime Minister discussed the longstanding bonds of friendship between the two countries. They also reiterated their commitment to work together in both bilaterally and multilateral forums.
Minister Shahid arrived in Sri Lanka at the invitation of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Sri Lanka, Ali Sabry, to attend the celebrations for the 75th Anniversary of the Independence of Sri Lanka, on Thursday.
Minister Shahid is accompanied by the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Ahmed Khaleel, Secretary Bilateral, Dr. Hala Hameed, Director at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Hussain Jahhaz and Assistant Director at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Aishath Fareena.
