Bank of Maldives (BML) has announced the 10 winning proposals for the third and fourth quarter of its Community Fund for the concluding year.
The country’s national bank made the announcement via a press release on Tuesday.
As such, the winning projects include one to establish an outdoor library at the school in Maarandhoo island of Haa Alif atoll, proposed by BandeyriStar Sports Club, as well as a proposal by the SEED Association in Lhohi island of Noonu atoll to establish a beach picnic park.
Another winning proposal was won by the Mundoo Zuvaanunge Jamiyya or the Mundoo Youth Society to develop a harbor waiting area in Mundoo island of Laamu atoll.
The proposal to establish a picnic area in Kondey island of Gaaf Alif atoll by Kissaru NGO, one to establish a waiting area at the school in Maduvvaree island of Meemu atoll by Maduvvaree Ijthimaaee Gulhun, one to upgrade the school computer lab in Foakaidhoo island of Shaviyani atoll by Arula Sports Academy, one to upgrade the school Alimas Park in Milandhoo island of Shaviyani atoll by Milandhoo Sports Club also won this quater.
The remaining three winning proposals are one by the Women Enhancement of Fonadhoo island in Laamu atoll for the digitization of school classrooms, one by the Maalhos Recreation and Environment Society in Baa atoll Maalhos to install street lights on the island as well as one by ‘Vehi Saafu’ of Hithadhoo district of southernmost Addu City to establish a community garden.
BML opened applications for proposals under the third phase of the ‘Aharenge Bank’ Community Fund, for the ongoing year in September.
Similar to previous phases of the fund, 10 projects are selected among the proposals received under the third phase including in the areas of education, environment, sports and community development.
The winning proposals are entitled to receive MVR 50,000 to execute their plan.
BML opened applications for proposals under the first phase back in February. Applications for the second phase under the initiative were opened during May.
The ‘Aharenge Bank’ Community Fund is a programme aimed at empowering individuals and NGOs to contribute to local communities through sustainable development projects. The offer is open for individuals, local NGOs, Community-Based Organizations (CBOs), women’s development groups, tech community movements and youth empowerment groups. Government and business entities are not eligible for the program.
Since the initiative was launched, BML has funded 80 projects across the country under the Community Fund initiative.
A total of 20 projects are to be funded during 2022, similar to previous years.
