Miuvaan Mohamed, Spokesperson at the President’s Office has briefed the press regarding the latest developments of the administration.

Shedding light on President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih’s recent visit to Kaashidhoo island of Kaafu atoll to participate in the National Farmers’ Day and World Food Day activities, Miuvaan noted the president’s perspective on raising import duties on agricultural products that can be harvested locally.

He also noted the administration's decision to entrust the Agro National Corporation (AgroNat) with purchasing and marketing produce from Maldivian farmers.

Further, he also stated that AgroNat has assured farmers that they would oversee the sales of the 17 crops identified as “easily harvestable” in the island nation.

Going on to emphasize on the president’s remarks regarding encouraging farmers to transition to organic farming and the need for a farmer insurance scheme, Miuvaan reiterated President Solih’s statement that the administration was working to create an effective insurance programme, particularly for the local farmers.

Miuvaan also stated that seven international sporting competitions have been hosted in the island nation in accordance with President Solih’s presidential pledge to promote Maldives as a destination for international sporting events.

As such, President Solih had attended the “Volleyball World Beach Pro Tour Maldives Challenge 2022” and the “Maldives International Challenge 2022” badminton tournament.
