Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid has briefed the CEO of Oman Tourism Development Company (OMRAN), Hashil bin Obaid Al-Mahrouqi regarding investment opportunities in the Maldives.
As part of his ongoing visit to Oman as the Special Envoy of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, Minister Shahid met with the CEO of OMRAN and representatives of Oman Investment Authority (OIA) on Wednesday.
During the meeting, held at OIA, FM Shahid briefed the CEO of OMRAN on President Solih’s Economic agenda, the post-covid economic recovery efforts and the current economic situation of the Maldives.
Explaining the advantages of investing in Maldives, FM Shahid detailed the investment opportunities in the southern and northern regions of Maldives.
Highlighting that the opportunities in the Maldives are of great interest to Omani businesses, the CEO of OMRAN expressed hope to work together to pursue those opportunities in the future.
Discussions also touched down on possible steps to take the discussion further.
The meeting was joined by Non-Resident Ambassador of Maldives to the Sultanate of Oman, Mohamed Khaleel and Joint Secretary at the Foreign Ministry, Fathimath Najwa.
The CEO of OMRAN was accompanied by Dr. Lubna Badar Al Mazroei, Manager of Economic Diversification Investments as well as officials of the Oman Investment Authority.
Tasked with the responsibility of delivering the objectives contained in Oman’s 2040 National Tourism Strategy, OMRAN is the executive arm of Oman.
Responsible for undertaking the investment of the financial surplus achieved from oil and gas revenues, the OIA is Oman’s sovereign wealth fund and the main investment arm.
FM Shahid headed to Muscat, Oman on Tuesday and was received by the Chief of Protocol of Oman Khalid Aljaradi. He is expected to return some time on Thursday.
