First Lady Fazna Ahmed has urged the public to work together to achieve wholesome mental well-being.
She said this while speaking at the inauguration of the Mental Health Centre at Hulhumalé Hospital.
As such, taking the podium at the event, FL Fazna expressed hope that all employees at the hospital recognize that mental health is not only the responsibility of one department, but of the entire hospital from the ambulance driver to the management staff.
With this, the first lady urged the employees at the hospital to ensure that the hospital is a kind and caring environment and that all patients are well taken care of.
Shedding light on the first couple’s recent trip to Bahrain, First Lady Fazna noted that she spoke about the importance of cross-departmental collaboration in ensuring patients' mental health is properly cared for, during her visit to the King Hamad University Hospital.
She added that the Hulhumalé Hospital could draw inspiration from the Bahraini Hospital and implement similar initiatives.
Vice President Faisal Naseem also attended the inauguration ceremony, where FL Fazna and the vice president were presented with a commemorative plaque on behalf of the Cadabams Group, India.
Part of the incumbent administration’s efforts to prioritize and advance mental health through national policies, the new Mental Health Centre at the Hulhumalé Hospital provides a variety of services, including assessments for diagnosis, counselling services as well as cognitive and dialectical behavioral therapy.
Further, the center also collaborates with one of the leading psychiatric and mental hospitals in Bangalore, India; Cadabams Hospital to provide online consultations for child development and other specialist services.
Revolving around the theme “Make mental health and well-being for all a global priority” this year, the World Mental Health Day is marked on October 10 annually.
