Finance Minister Ibrahim Ameer has said that a lot of work has been done to strengthen the financial system in the last three and a half years.
Speaking at the opening ceremony of a workshop to discuss the recovery of lost funds from the state, Ameer said the government prioritizes managing the finances of the state, and trying to reduce misappropriation of state funds and property.
The law has been amended to strengthen the financial system and more such changes are planned in the future, he said. Ameer said it is important to develop a system to recover the money lost by the state in recent years.
Ameer said the state has not yet recovered MVR 1.9 billion from 2009 to 2020 that had been lost.
Closing the doors open to corruption is one of the government's biggest policies, he said.
There is already evidence of a decline in corruption in the country, added Ameer.
Minister Ameer revealed that the country was ranked 124th in the CPI in 2018 but moved up significantly to 85th in the 2021 ranking as evidence.
