President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih had taken part in the Leaders’ Retreat of the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM).
The Leader’s Retreat was held at the Intare Conference Arena in Rwanda, on Saturday.
The Leaders’ Retreat was held in two sessions, the first focusing on youth, technology, and innovation, and the second on global challenges.
The President is on an official visit to Rwanda to attend the 26th CHOGM. It is the first CHOGM to be held after a two-year delay due to the pandemic and the first held since the Maldives’ re-accession to the Commonwealth network on February 1, 2020.
First Lady Fazna Ahmed and a high-level delegation accompanied the President on this trip.
The President and First Lady attended the official opening ceremony of the 26th Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting.
CHOGM brings delegates from 54 nations from Africa, the Caribbean and Americas, Europe, Asia, and the Pacific, seeking to strengthen multilateral cooperation, explore new opportunities, and address shared challenges facing future generations.
The official opening will be followed by high-level meetings of the delegates to discuss collaboration on topics ranging from trade to health to climate. CHOGM also features four forums, ministerial meetings, side events and other activities.
The CHOGM 2022 theme is "Delivering a Common Future: Connecting, Innovating, Transforming".
CHOGM 2022 is from June 20 to June 25, 2022.
