Despite completion of R. Maduvvari youth center, gov't fails to provide necessary equipment over past two and a half years
Despite the completion of the youth center in R. Maduvvari, the facility remains closed due to a lack of necessary sports equipment, sparking significant concern among the local youth. While the government initially attempted to inaugurate the center without the required gear, the island council rejected the move, insisting on a fully equipped facility. Consequently, the island's youth are calling for the swift provision of all necessary equipment to ensure the center can finally open for public use.

The newly elected member of the Maduvvari Council, Mohamed Nisham, has stated that although the youth center developed in R. Maduvvari during President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih's administration is complete, President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu's government has failed to provide the necessary resources for the facility over the past two and a half years.
Speaking to RaajjeTV, Maduvvari Council member-elect Mohamed Nisham stated that the youth center was a project secured through extensive efforts during the MDP administration. He noted that by the time President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s government took office, 95 percent of the project had already been completed. Nisham highlighted that although the remaining five percent of the work is now finished, the facility remains unopened nearly a year into the current administration. Nisham emphasized that the opening of the center is a top priority and a long-awaited development for the island's youth.
However, due to the lack of necessary indoor equipment and the inability to procure them, the matter remained unresolved despite discussions with the Youth Center and the Ministry of Sports.
This is a major concern for the youth. The Ministry previously spoke of bringing in the necessary equipment, and there were even discussions about doing so ahead of the elections. However, it never materialized. Two and a half years have passed now, and that is a significant amount of time to simply bring in some equipment and get the facility operational.Mohamed Nisham, elected member of the Maduvvari Council
This youth center was constructed in R. Maduvvari during the administration of former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih. By the time the government changed, 95 percent of the project had been completed, with only the painting work remaining. Although the facility has remained closed due to a lack of equipment since the change in administration, the government reportedly attempted to inaugurate the center without the necessary supplies.
However, the council has decided to withhold its cooperation, stating that they are unwilling to proceed with the work in the absence of the necessary equipment.
The youth of Maduvvari are calling for the necessary equipment to be brought in and for the facility to be opened as soon as possible.
