An individual has been arrested for vandalizing the residence of former president and leader of the opposition Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM), Abdulla Yameen.
Maldives Police Service (MPS) revealed that a 20-year-old Maldivian man was arrested on Monday, under a court order.
The Criminal Court has since remanded the man by five days.
At a time an arrest has been made for vandalizing private property, the opposition has been accusing the government and the police institution for negligence in probing the case.
However, police have refuted these claims, noting that they launched investigations into the case the day the incident occurred.
Alongside Dhoovehi residence in Henveiru district of the capital, the walls of PPM’s head office were also vandalized with graffiti.
Such incidents have been increasing across the capital, at a time opposition supporters have also been using the same maneuvers as part of their ‘India Out!’ campaign.
This is also being probed by the police .
