A fire has burned down a house in Maamendhoo island of Gaaf Alif atoll.

The fire broke out at house named ‘Long Life’ in Maamendhoo, at around 1:30am on Tuesday.

Residents of the island came out and extinguished the fire with their combined efforts, a little past two hours since the fire broke out.

The raging fire destroyed property inside the house, including furniture as well as the ceiling, walls and the roof.

According to the island council, the council alongside the National Disaster Management Authority are providing assistance to the family who was living in the damaged home.

The fire burned the house down, to unlivable conditions.
