Authorities seek foreign assistance in investigating Thursday’s devastating fire

Authorities have decided to seek foreign assistance in investigating Thursday’s devastating fire.

This was revealed by Commissioner of Police (CP) Ali Shujau.

CP Shujau revealed that it has been decided to seek foreign assistance for the investigation in connection with the fire incident.

He said this during a press conference held regarding the fire incident that scorched parts of three ministries and the capital Malé City Council’s office.

At the press conference held at Dharubaaruge, the CP said that Maldives Police Service (MPS) had provided assistance to Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) in dousing the flames and that all resources had been utilized.

Further, Shujau has assured the public that the police will thoroughly investigate the major incident.

The CP further said that the investigation would proceed with the assistance of a foreign team. However, he did not provide further details regarding this.

CP Shujau has stated that complete information related to the matter will be shared with the public, adding that the area where the fire incident occurred has now been handed over to the police institution.

In addition to this, he emphasized that police forensic teams are working in the area and that they are also reviewing CCTV footage.

On Thursday, in addition to the Ministry of Housing, Land and Urban Development, the building housing the Ministry of Construction and the Ministry of Environment caught fire and was extensively damaged.
