The Ministry of Housing, Land and Urban Development has revealed that no data related to the ‘Gedhoruveriyaa scheme’ will be affected due to Thursday’s massive fire that broke out at the ministry and the Ministry of Construction and Infrastructure.
In a statement released on Thursday, the housing ministry revealed that while the fire has spread in the building where the ministry, along with the construction ministry and Ministry of Climate Change, Environment and Energy are operating, the Fire and Rescue Team of the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) is working to extinguish the blaze.
The statement goes on to note that no employees of the ministry were injured in connection with the massive inferno.
Further, the ministry revealed that all information and documents related to the ongoing ‘Gedhoruveriyaa scheme’ are digitally maintained in the ministry's cloud hosting. The ministry has assured that the fire incident will not affect any of the data.
The housing ministry further stated that they are consulting with relevant authorities regarding the measures that can be taken for safety and security in relation to the fire incident. The ministry also highlighted that they will continue to share further details with the public.
The ministry's assurance that no information related to the ‘Gedhoruveriyaa scheme’ will be affected comes at a time several members of the public have been raising questions and expressing concerns about the flat list to be issued under the housing scheme, following the flames that engulfed the ministry building on Thursday morning. Due to the delay in publicizing the flat list, much criticism has been directed towards the ministry and the Housing Minister Dr. Ali Haidar Ahmed.
