Maldives Minister of Foreign Affairs and President of the 76th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), Abdulla Shahid has stated that the global, transboundary challenges of our time can only be solved when the consequences of our actions on others are acknowledged.

He made this remark in a sermon delivered during the Friday prayers at the United Nations, which was led by the Maldivian minister.

As such, the PGA noted that when the people learn to care for one another across borders, across the oceans as they would care for their closest, peace can be attained.

He added that the communities can only find solace around the world, when they think of their global community as “one”.

Stating that the global, transboundary challenges of now can “only” be solved when the consequences of our actions on others are acknowledged, the Maldivian foreign minister highlighted that faith in the ties that bind the community in their common humanity, is also a factor that contributes to solving the said challenges.

Further, he revealed that global challenges may only be resolved once the people have trust in the systems put in place to prevent catastrophe and conflict, and encourage dialogue.

With this, he urged the global communities to have confidence in each other and to have mercy in their hearts for one another, in order to resolve global challenges for good.

PGA Shahid urged the people to pray for a better and more inclusive, peaceful world alongside their prayers for empathy and the people’s common humanity.
