Programs to rehabilitate sexual offenders and to stop the spread of extremism is being planned, states the Commissioner of Prisons Ahmed Mohamed Fulhu.
Speaking at the 'Falasurukhee' program of RaajjeTV, Commissioner Ahmed expressed concern over the spread religious extremism in the prisons. He said that they are planning a program that will help stop the spread and deradicalize those that are spreading these views in the prisons.
Ahmed also talked about those who are in prison for sexual offenses. He stated that special programs are being planned to rehabilitate these detainees.
Speaking about how rehabilitation programs are common in prisons, Ahmed stated that these are very general programs that are held in different levels.
He said that the detainees are given very basic information during the first level of the programs. These include testing the detainees on their level of reading, writing, if they know how to pray and recite Quran. Ahmed said that these basic knowledge will be taught to all the detainees during the first level of the program.
During the second level of the program, the detainees are taught lifestyle skills. If they were to reach the third level, they are given vocational trainings.
While plans are being made to start rehabilitation programs for sexual offenders and to stop the spread of extremism, a drug rehabilitation program was launched in Maafushi Prisons this Sunday.
