With the support of Bank of Maldives (BML)’s ‘Community Fund’ initiative, BML has successfully completed projects in two islands.

As such, the country’s national bank completed projects in Gan island of Laamu atoll and Kudarikilu island of Baa atoll.

The bank opened a community beach park in Gan and also successfully installed solar streetlights in the island’s main road ‘Bodumagu’.

The community beach park is open for the public and features the traditional swing or ‘Undhoali’, benches, an outdoor shower facility as well as a barbeque area and a children’s play area.

Further, BML helped Kudarikilu island reduce its carbon foot print with the installation of solar powered streetlights on the island's main road.

BML revealed that the project will help reduce the island's electricity load and help create awareness on the importance of renewable energy.

The community fund campaign aims to empower individuals to contribute to the society by conducting sustainable community projects across the Maldives.

The Community Fund is a programme aimed at empowering individuals and NGOs to contribute to local communities through sustainable projects. The project is open for individuals, local NGOs, Community-Based Organizations (CBOs), women’s development groups, tech community movements and youth empowerment groups. Government and business entities are not eligible for the program.

The country’s national bank has financially supported 60 projects nationwide since the fund was incepted.
