Discussions have been held on the development plans for Hinnavaru island in Lhaviyani atoll.

As part of his ongoing tour of the atoll, President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih sat down with the Hinnavaru island council and Women’s Development Committee (WDC), where councilors shed light on the numerous developmental projects initiated by the administration.

They also shared their concerns and most pertinent needs of the island community and proposed some changes to the harbor development plan, going on to highlight the need for improved banking services, modernizing the school building and strengthening human resources in the education sector.

The meeting also saw President Solih briefed on the WDC’s efforts in the socio-economic development as well as their needs for an office building dedicated to the committee.

They went on to discuss arrangements for expectant mothers to travel to the Lhaviyani Atoll Hospital.

President Solih shared the latest updates on the development projects underway in the island and expressed gratitude to the members for the enthusiastic welcome.

As part of the visit to his home island the president also sat down with the island residents to discuss development plans.

As such, he shared with them, that the hospital project for the island is currently in the tender stage and went on to detail that the government plans to expand the existing harbor and construct a new one.

President Solih detailed some other projects planned for the island including road development, building a university campus and 100 housing units, in addition to improving the electricity network.

Assuring that arrangements will be made to improve banking services in the island, the president highlighted that funds have been allocated in the budget to develop a new building for the island council.

He also expressed his administration’s commitment to listen to the people and prioritize their needs.

The president is currently on a three-day tour of Lhaviyani atoll, where he will be covering a total of six islands. He is accompanied by a delegation of high-level government officials.
