The new services at Ungoofaaru Regional Hospital have been inaugurated.
Vice President Faisal Naseem inaugurated the CT scan, mammography, and OPG services at the hospital on Sunday.
VP Naseem arrived in the island on Sunday morning.
Taking the podium at the ceremony, VP Naseem emphasized the priority the incumbent administration places on the decentralized delivery of public services, particularly improving access to healthcare services.
He went on to touch down on the progress by the government on developing tertiary hospitals in five regions across the country.
Shedding light on the administration’s decentralization policy, VP Naseem stated that its aim is to make public services more accessible across all regions and eradicate the need for travel to the congested capital Malé City for necessities.
VP Naseem went on to reaffirm the administration’s commitment to consider the concerns of the people.
VP Naseem stated that more than 3,000 patients had undergone CT scans at healthcare facilities outside of the capital over the past three years, when the administration had pioneered significant improvements to healthcare services outside of Malé City.
During the visit, the vice president also toured the facilities and inspected the new services.
The hospital launched the CT scan service in October 2021. Since then, more than 45 patients have received the services.
Three patients have undergone mammography while 95 more patients have received the OPG service so far.
