Maldives has confirmed the second Covid-19 fatality of November.
The Health Protection Agency (HPA) identified the deceased as an 87-year-old woman.
The victim was receiving treatment at the Addu Covid Management Facility before being pronounced dead by doctors at around 11:46am on Friday. This is the 10th Covid-19 fatality to have been confirmed from the southernmost city so far. The Covid-19 case tally in Addu City continues to increase, with the active cases currently above 300.
With Friday’s death, the country’s death toll has risen to 245.
HPA reported the first death of the ongoing month on Thursday with the death of an 81-year-old man receiving treatment at Hulhumalé Medical Facility.
Of the 245 deaths linked to coronavirus reported in the Maldives so far, 195 have been reported so far this year.
The island nation reported the highest number of deaths in a single month since the pandemic began, during May 2021, when a total of 88 deaths were confirmed. 50 deaths were confirmed in June while 10 deaths were reported in July. In August, five Covid-19 patients succumbed to the virus, September also saw five Covid-19 fatalities. 12 Covid-19 fatalities were reported in October.
